HONEY WAX

- HONEY WAX:
Honey wax is the product of the wax glands on the belly of worker bees. It is produced in the form of tiny and clear plates. Scales are dissolved by bees through the secretion of the gland. It means that bees build cells with the aid of this mixture. The mass of hexagonal cells built from wax in a very precise way from two directions inside the beehive is called honeycomb. Bees build their wax "towns" in a wooden frame made by bee-keepers. In the frame there is an artificial honeycomb plate made of wax fitted with the aid of a wire-cloth. Earlier, bee-keeping with beehives did not use wooden frames because honeycomb was broken out when taking away. Therefore, the storage, maturation of the collected products and bringing up young bees take place in constructed frames. Honey wax is melted by the bee-keepers from this mass of cells and honeycombs through a special procedure. It is mainly a piece of honeycomb but it can be the scrap of honeycomb, mixed wax pieces taken from the frames or beehives, the separated cover of the honeycomb or the wax waste of the bottom of the beehive. During the melting process, the melted wax is separated from the foreign material collected, e.g. pupae skin and other contaminations.
Wax is the mixture of several components. Its most important elements are the free fat acids that compose 13% of wax; 70% of wax is the compound of alcohols and in the end, 12-13% of wax is hydrocarbons.

- USAGE OF HONEY WAX:
Most part of the wax production of the world is used for cosmetics purposes: lip balm, face cream, shaving soap, shaving cream, theatre grease-paint, moustache twirler. In medicine it is used e.g. to prolong the effect of penicillin injection or to produce ear candles, ointments and plasters. Industrial usage: candles, floor wax, polisher for leather, wood and furniture, isolation of electrical cables, water resistance of tents and leather, colour pencils, carbon papers (indigo), printer's ink, covering cheese against drying, air-tight closing of bottles, covering chocolate against the humidity of air, polishing cars, teeth substitution, preparation of anatomic and other display samples. A large number of ornaments, such as candles and small sculptures can be produced from wax.
